Anatomy of the Male and Female Reproductive System

The reproductive system is a system of the body consisting of the sex organs in organisms which work together for sexual reproduction.

The reproductive system is regarded as the most important system of the body because it is needed for the sustenance of life (Zimmerman, 2016).

The Male Reproductive System

Most of the male reproductive system is located outside the body unlike the females consists of the penis, testes, scrotum, spermatic ducts and sex glands.

These structures all cooperate in producing sperm cells, the male sex gamete, and the fluid in which they are transported, semen.

The three main functions of the male reproductive system are to produce, maintain and transport the sperm cells in their fluid medium, to produce and secrete the sex hormone testosterone and to discharge the seminal fluid in the female reproductive tract (The Cleveland Clinic Foundation, 2016).

The Female Reproductive System

In women, this system is found mostly internally which includes the ovaries, the fallopian tubes, the uterus, the cervix, and the vagina (MCAT, n. d.).

These structures cooperate in the production of the ovum, the female sex gamete, and its transportation tract (The Cleveland Clinic Foundation, 2016).
